Name Jeremy Aurelian Harkmoor

Position Chief Intelligence Officer

Rank Lieutenant Commander

Character Information

Gender Male
Species Half human, half-Orion
Age 34

Physical Appearance

Height 6'2
Weight 190
Hair Color Black, under bright light reveals tint of dark green
Eye Color Emerald green
Physical Description While not exceptionally tall, Harkmoor is broad shouldered and powerfully built, betraying his half Orion heritage. Despite his muscle and athleticism, Harkmoor does not move like an athlete or a fighter. Rather, he tends to slouch and move quietly, in an almost understated manner. He is adept at appearing visibly unremarkable (occasionally requiring coloured contacts to change his striking emerald green eyes).

Harkmoor has short, thin hair, no facial hair and dark skin which looks very tanned, but in bright sunlight actually turns out to be tinged with dark green.

Family

Spouse None
Children None
Father Gerald Harkmoor, Human Merchant trader
Mother Klara, Orion woman (deceased)
Brother(s) None
Sister(s) Half sister, (Gerald Harkmoor and human wife) - Emma Harkmoor. The two siblings are very close despite their half-status. Emma is younger (23) and has just graduated Starfleet academy.
Other Family Harkmoor may have Orion relatives, but if so he does not know them. Onions react poorly to half-breeds, so it is unlikely they would be friendly.

Personality & Traits

General Overview It is an axiom that the best Intelligence officers are damaged in some way themselves. Jeremy Harkmoor isn't quite damaged, but he grew up with no real home and no real ties, and that has affected his outlook on life. He has only a few vague memories of Orion and his mother, and he was never accepted by his Father, at least on an emotional level. Certainly his father paid for the best education and tutors, but the embarrassment of his origin, and the loathing with which his step-mother held him, left him cut off from family. If not for his half-sister (who he loves dearly) he would have no childhood ties at all. This has made Harkmoor guarded and quiet, and it is difficult to get very close to him. Though, not impossible: he made several good friends at the Academy. He is analytic and thoughtful, careful to explore a problem before jumping to conclusions or hasty reactions. But he is extremely professional and mission oriented: Starfleet Academy was the family he never had, and he has a fierce loyalty to it and its protection. His sense of humour is more sarcastic than slapstick, and is generally understated.

Then, just before his eighth birthday, he was bundled one night aboard a transport and sent to Earth. No warning, no explanation. He wasn't told that the politics of the Syndicate had shifted, and his mother was on the wrong side. It was over three years later when he found out she had been killed the same night he departed.

Jeremy showed up on his father's doorstep as a shock and an embarrassment. Loathed by his step mother for what he represented, and a source of shame for his father, Jeremy was bundled off to expensive academies where he lived most of the year, out of sight from home. Only his half sister grew to appreciate him. Yet in these academies, Harkmoor excelled, earning a scholarship to Starfleet.

At the academy he was an outsider to everyone, as Orion wasn't a Federation member - he had no peers on that side of his family. Yet his ability to get along, make deals, make friends and manipulate people caught the eye of Starfleet Intelligence. After graduation from the Academy with high marks, and excelling in languages and hand to hand combat, he was picked up by them, and began his training in the shadow world of covert operations.

He served on Bejor, on Cardassia, and even on Romulus before it was destroyed. Once, he was even sent to infiltrate a branch of the Orion syndicate. His assessments were always the same: successful, intelligent operative, but a bit cold blooded when it comes to finishing his missions. His casualty rate was higher than most of his peers, but nobody could argue with his results. His ability to blend in, gather trust and gather Intel was peerless.
Spoken Languages English, German, Orion, Cardassian, Romulan, Deltan, can understand (but not speak) some Breen.
Strengths & Weaknesses Despite looking human (except under bright light and careful observation, when one might see a green tinge to skin and hair), Harkmoor's Orion heritage makes him stronger and with slightly greater endurance than most humans. He uses this to great advantage in his martial arts training, where he has mastered several hard and several soft martial arts. In one of his later assignments, he complimented his Human martial arts proficiency by studying some Orion dancefighting. Harkmoor is very good at looking ordinary, at blending in to a crowd and being unnoticed. He is a good actor, and good at manipulating people and making friends and allies, even if every word he says is a lie. People who do not know him often overlook him, to their peril.
Harkmoor has a bit of a blind spot where Starfleet is concerned, believing them to be correct and in the right even in rare cases where they are not. He even defends Starfleet in cases such as the Ba’ku incident, tending to believe the organization can do no wrong.

Though Harkmoor's martial skills are superlative, he never excelled with a phaser, and his marksmanship with ranged weapons is generally unremarkable. He can use them certainly, but don't call upon him for any precision shooting. One of his primary strengths AND weaknesses (which has been noted by several previous commanders) is his extreme mission focus. He can be quite cold blooded when it comes to getting his mission done. Several of his commanders have cautioned him for his seemingly casual regard to casualties. He is not bloodthirsty, and entirely embraces the Federation belief in the value of life. He is just very goal oriented, and tends to look upon anything that can get in the way of that as secondary. It's not that he lack empathy or care for his fellows, he has both in spades. But he regards himself as a protector of the Federation, to which he has a near pathological loyalty. As such, if he sees his primary goal of protecting the Federation and completing his mission in jeopardy, then other considerations tend to fall by the wayside. He is steadfastly loyal to friends (he doesn't have many) but to stranger who notice him at all, he comes off as quiet and a bit of a cold fish.
Ambitions Despite his unprepossessing exterior, Harkmoor is very ambitious. He wants to rise in Starfleet intelligence to the point where he directs operations rather than carries them out. He loves field work, but is always frustrated that he can't direct resources where he feels they should be deployed. He loves field work, but wants to be the one devising and directing missions. He also wants to find out which faction in the Orion Syndicate was responsible for the death of his mother, and destroy them. This last ambition he keeps very secret.

Lastly, he leads a lonely life, and would like to meet a woman in the same field as him, who understands his work. But very few do, or are cleared to even discuss his life at all.
Hobbies & Interests Apart from training martial arts in his spare time, Harkmoor is also fascinated by languages, and is constantly trying to increase his facility with new ones.

He plays Mah-Jong (taught by his sister) and in his spare time, enjoys a bit of gardening, though he is not very good at it. He also doesn't like EVA work, and gets slightly queasy when space walking. He has a nervous tic of flicking a small Orion coin across his knuckles. It is the only thing he has of his life before he fled Orion.

Personal History

Personal History Orion/Human half breeds are very rare, but possible. When Gerald Harkmoor found himself travelling with an Orion woman returning home to the Syndicate on a long haul transport, he never expected a child to come of the dalliance. Gerald was then at the start of a growing Merchant trading business, and assumed his affair would remain a secret. He was married already, but the Orion woman proved irresistible. She was, rarely enough, no slave, but working for the Syndicate on some mission she would not describe. The trip lasted just long enough to produce Jeremy, who was initially raised on Orion. Gerald was informed of his son, and that he would be raised on Orion, and that was fine with him. He all but scrubbed the boy from his mind. Jeremy spent his first three years on Orion, being raised and given an advanced education under his mother, who held a privileged position in the Syndicate. Orions don't like half-breeds, so Jeremy needed to learn not just to fight, but to listen, to make friends and get along, in order to survive, even as a toddler.

Then, just before his fourth birthday, he was bundled one night aboard a transport and sent to Earth. No warning, no explanation. He wasn't told that the politics of the Syndicate had shifted, and his mother was on the wrong side. It was many years later when he found out she had been killed the same night he departed. Jeremy has only a few flashes of memory of that time, as he was so young, and only a vague recollection of his mother's face. he also has only two artifacts: a rare, antique Orion coin, and an old book of Orion poetry.

Jeremy showed up on his father's doorstep as a shock and an embarrassment. Loathed by his step mother for what he represented, and a source of shame for his father, Jeremy was bundled off to expensive academies where he lived most of the year, out of sight from home. Only his half-sister grew to appreciate him. Yet in these academies, Harkmoor excelled, earning acceptance to Starfleet Academy.

He served on Bajor, on Cardassia, and even visited Romulus briefly. Once, he was even sent to infiltrate a branch of the Orion syndicate. He has gathered a string of informants and contacts on a dozen worlds. His assessments were always the same: successful, intelligent operative, but a bit cold blooded when it comes to finishing his missions. His casualty rate was higher than most of his peers, but nobody could argue with his results. His ability to blend in, gather trust and gather Intel was peerless.

His recent promotion of Chief Intel Officer on the Jerusalem is his first Command position, and he is eager to do his best with the new resources available at his disposal.
